Currently working towards my undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech, I am studying cinema as a Communication and Humanities, Science, and the Environment (HSE) double major. I am an active member in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, tutoring seventh graders at the Blacksburg Middle School.
I will be traveling abroad for the spring semester to study Marketing in Lugano, Switzerland. There I will be working on social marketing research projects through Virginia Tech and L’Universita della Svizzera Italiana (USI) in Lugano, Switzerland. I hope to gain international experience with fellow Swiss colleagues while expanding horizons and seeing diverse European cultures. During my travels I will be co-producing a promotional video with Garrett Doermann, highlighting the actual experiences of Virginia Tech Students during my travels in Europe.
In the past, I have apprenticed with Jeanne Whyte, an architect in Loudoun County primarily designing residential homes. During my work with her, I created a standard title block for all future plans and drew floor plans and elevations for various additions on residential homes in Loudoun County using AutoCAD.
In the future, I plan to utilize my acquired skills in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as producing and editing skills by possibly working for video production companies. I hope to produce some of my own films as well.
Taking a four-semester-long course at Virginia Tech called Earth Sustainability, I have become more aware and conscious of the living world around us. The class has completely reshaped my perspective on the environment, the way I chose to live my own life, and how I can influence others to live their own lives.
Carpooling, shopping for food locally, and becoming more conscious of the thousands of chemicals that can possibly end up traveling through air and water to all parts of the globe from the initial release into the environment are just some issues I have come to libe more aware of. My pursuance in the HSE major will further support the type of forward thinking that is necessary for the time we live in this new and uncertain 21st century.
